You need not go to the movie theater for horror. You can get it for free from the folks at C-SPAN with their endless volumes of shock footage. This one is a real beauty. Here we have the fast talking former Rep. Bill McCollum of Florida with a cascade of ideas all of which have been proved ridiculous. Let’s fool with habeas corpus…. Let’s cut preventative crime programs… Let’s build more prisons… Never mind that none of these things actually reduces crime in America. For these were the feverish days of the Contract of America. This may be 1994 but the same useless policies are still shopped by some today. And remember: This knucklehead wants to be the next Governor of Florida. An uncharacteristicly weary gentleman from Virginia, at the end of his first term in Congress, counters McCollum with something quaint: the facts.
