Disrespect on Display or Thin-Skin?

Got Manners?  Political disagreement is one thing. Ongoing and open disrespect is another.  Isn’t it funny how these incidents of disrespect towards President Obama keep popping up?  Of course no one expects that Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer would go skipping arm and arm with the President, but how about some basic common manners?

Would a visiting leader from a foreign country be greeted with a finger in his face by a Governor? Has anyone seen that happen?  If not, why would the leader of our own country? On the other hand, as Gov. Brewer tells it, President Obama asked her about somthing he didn’t like in her book “Scorpions for Breakfast” and that led to a picture that is sure to speak louder than any of the explanations.  I’m surprised the President would even be reading a book by Brewer.  Brewer says the President is “thin skinned” which is a claim that has been made by many others before.

FROM CBS:  Brewer’s side of it was that Obama was objecting to Brewer’s description of a meeting he and Brewer had at the White House, where she described Obama as lecturing her. In an interview in November Brewer described two tense meetings. The first took place before his commencement address at Arizona State University. “He did blow me off at ASU,” she said in the television interview in November.

There have been several instances of unchecked ego directed at the President.  Just as Donald “unchecked ego” Trump demanded the President “show him his papers.” The belligerent “publicness” of the disrespect towards this particular President is noteworthy.  Somehow and someway President Obama remains cool.  I have no clue why… other than the obvious:  If he does react he gets saddled with the “angry black man” problem.  Mitt Romney can’t even take a tough question during an interview — imagine someone putting their finger in his face during a conversation?

And it’s all “showy” and ultra-public:  Did Brewer have to do this in front of cameras?  Wasn’t there a better time and place?  Could Boston Bruin goalie Tim “TeaBoy” Thomas have simply kept his mouth shut and executed a quiet no-show for the White House invite honoring his team? Probably.  But see that just wouldn’t do.  All his buddies and friends he’d been talking smack to the President about just had to know.  He put it all on facebook.  Why? Some just can’t bring themselves to see this President in power over them and be put in a position to find out they may be wrong about him.  Never have so may thin egos and shattered ideas of superiority been revealed.

No, none of this is the end of the world.  It wasn’t the end of the world when Speaker John Boehner refused the President’s date to speak to a joint session on jobs in September 2011.  But once again: No one can find another instance in American history where a U.S. President requested a date to address Congress and was refused.  Can anyone find another incident like this to an American President?

Get ready for someone to fundraise off this.  And of course she’ll never apologize.  Is this the most disrespected President ever?
