Black Caucus Lights Up Marco Rubio for Continuing to Block 2 Black FL Judges

The CBC is concerned about African American judges being delayed by GOP members of the Senate. Black Caucus members are asking that the nominations of eight Black judges be moved forward before the August recess.

“We call on Republican Senators who are holding up our African American nominees to allow them to move forward,” said DC Delagete Eleanor Holmes Norton at a press conference on judicial nominees yesterday.

FL-JUDGES“Republicans have declared a scorched earth policy against President Obama’s agenda and that includes denying access to the courts,” said Rep. Alcee Hastings from Florida.

“Vacant seats effect real people, when judges are overworked a backlog develops and Americans who need help do not get it,” Hastings added.

“Someone tell Marco Rubio that if he needs more information on Brian Davis he can call me,” Hastings said communicating through the press.

Though the members were focused on Rubio, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is also involved in blocking one of the black judges from Florida the CBC wants moved.

“This is not a game… Why the delay? Our court must reflect the diversity of our country,” said Rep Frederica Wilson, whose district includes Miami. “I say to you Marco we are depending on you today. Why now? What is the holdup?” Wilson said speaking to Sen. Rubio though he was not in the room.

Judge Brian Davis, a Princeton grad, has been waiting to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate for 504 days. He and another Judge, William Thomas whose nomination has been delayed 245 days, are both being blocked. By who? Freshman Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. Rubio is hiding from the press because he is feeling the heat after being played by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on immigration. Needless to say, Rubio has to be chased down through hallways before and after votes as he took a back stairwell to travel to and from Senate votes. Such is the life of someone dreaming of the White House. Two calls and an e-mail to Rubio’s staff got no response.

There appears to be nothing on the record from Rubio indicating why he has a hold on Judges Brian Davis and William Thomas.
