#VA8: Will Mayor Bill Euille’s 38,000 Strong Base Push Him to Victory?

MAYOR BILL EUILLE. Of all the candidates in VA-8 competing to replace Rep. Jim Moran, Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille already has a established base  in the eighth district.  In a low turnout primary race, that base could push Euille to victory.  So many of the voters participating in the June 10th primary will have already voted for Euille several times euille3before — up to 38,000 voters have chosen him before.  Will they do it again and send him a few miles away to the Capitol?

Euille is one of only eight Mayors in Virginia of a city with a population of over 100,000.  “I am the only candidate who is an elected Mayor — just like Jim Moran was — I’m proud of the fact I have a record of proven results,” Euille said at a recent debate.

Of course every race is different.  But even in a competitive eight person field featuring five particularly highly qualified candidates, Euille is in the #1 or #2 slot when it comes to type of resume successful U.S. Representatives tend to have.  With former Lt. Governor Don Beyer and State Sen. Adam Ebbin competing in the race, the resume battle when it comes to elected officials with years of experience is a close one.

Consider:

Bill Euille :  Business owner –> President, VA Transit Authority –> Arlington School Bd –> Alexandria City Council –> Mayor of Alexandria
Don Beyer :  Business owner –> VA Lt. Governor –> Chair, Auto Dealers Assoc. –> Ambassador to Switzerland
Adam Ebbin :  VA House of Delegates –> VA Senate

Even though Euille’s experience is clear, the race to fill VA-8 is one of the most competitive in the country.  Candidates have participated in non-stop debates that have given the Mayor an opportunity to highlight his resume.  Will voter base + resume = victory.  The ultra-competitive June 10 is only 22 days away.
