McConnell, Jan. 23, 2011: I assure you we will have a vote on repeal… It’s the single worst law passed in my time in the Senate…”

Schumer Answers McConnell on Forcing Health Care Vote in Senate — U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed Sunday to force a vote in the Senate on a repeal of the health care law:  “If Republicans insist on bringing the repeal bill up in the Senate, we will require them to vote up or down on the parts of the law that protect consumers and are very popular. At the end of this process, their repeal bill will have so many holes, it will look like Swiss cheese.

“Already, even some of the most conservative freshmen on the House Republican side are acknowledging that there are parts of the law they want to keep.  Do Republicans really want to vote to repeal the ban on preexisting conditions? Do they really want to repeal the guidelines that allow young adults who have graduated college and are just entering the workforce to stay on their parents’ insurance until age 26? Do they really want to repeal the fix to the Medicare donut hole that will save seniors 50 percent on the cost of their prescription drugs? Do they really want to repeal free checkups for seniors that save taxpayers billions of dollars through better prevention?  Going down this road will be much harder for the Republicans than they think and is not likely to produce the outcome they seek.”  –Senator Charles E. Schumer
