Nothing proven but… ETHICS COMPLAINT FILED ON REP. MEEKS. The conservative National Legal and Policy Center has filed an ethics complaint against Rep. Greg Meeks. Rep. Meeks has been the subject of numerous press reports in the New York Post and the New York Daily News regarding a charity for Katrina victims. Though many stories have been written nothing has been proven and much of the attention in the tale has focused on a New York State Senator who set the charity up with Rep. Meeks.
As reported by the Queens Chronicle (NY): The National Legal and Policy Center later filed a 26-page complaint with the Congressional Committee on Standards and Official Conduct stating that Meeks got preferential treatment from the real estate developer who built his St. Albans home. Meeks paid $830,000 for the dwelling in October 2006, but just three months later the estimated taxable market value was $1,239,000 — that’s a difference of $409,000. Meeks has adamantly denied that he was given any special discount on the deal.
The National Legal and Policy Center seems to spend all there time attacking Nancy Pelosi and filing ethics complaints. Yesterday, NLPC Chairman Ken Boehm was the only witness opposed to reauthorization of the taxpayer-funded Legal Services Corporation which provides legal aid to poor people.
