Obama Team Silent on Legislation Quick to Slap Clyburn

Breaking News: People say dumb things sometimes on TV. It is interesting to see how quickly Obama 2012 responded to something said by Rep. Jim Clyburn regarding Bain Capital yesterday — given they say almost nothing about any member of Congress on any issue at any other time. Just yesterday, Manu Raju of POLITICO had yet another “aloof President who never talks to Congress” piece. The President hasn’t talked to certain senior members of Congress in months… anyone surprised?

Last week, Rep. Jim Clyburn along with Reps. John Lewis, John Conyers, offered a bill on modernizing voting called the Voter Empowerment Act. Whose campaign would such a bill help? That would be President Obama’s. Statement from the White House on the legislation? Statement from Obama 2012 on the legislation? Nope. Statement on Jim Clyburn accusing Bain Capital of “raping” companies? Here’s a statement:

Obama spokeswoman Lis Smith said in an email, “We strongly disagree with Congressman Clyburn’s choice of words- they have no place in this conversation.”

But Smith continued: “But we do believe that Mitt Romney should come clean about his record as a corporate buyout specialist and how, contrary to his claims of creating jobs, his focus was on reaping quick profits for investors at the expense of workers and middle-class families.”
