Local news station WLBT in Mississippi is reporting that Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville was burned Tuesday night in western Mississippi city. The African American church has been in the local community for several decades. The words “Vote Trump” were spray painted on the side of the church. A local newspaper reporter, Delta Daily News writer Angie Quezada, posted images of the results of the fire on twitter late Tuesday night.
Greenville, Mississippi Fire Chief Ruben Brown told the Delta Daily News the fire broke out around 9:15 p.m. and that there was major damage to the church but that there were no injuries reported.
“The FBI Jackson Division is aware of the situation in Greenville, and we are working with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners to determine if any civil rights crimes were committed,” said spokesman Brett Carr.
