First CBCer to Reach Haiti: Kendrick Meek

Meek campaigning in Florida

OFF THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL AND ON TO HAITI: Kendrick Meek, who perhaps has more Haitians in his South Florida district than any other member of Congress, flew into the Dominican Republic this morning and is moving toward Haiti by car.  If he arrives as scheduled Meek would be the first member of the Congressional Black Caucus, and maybe even the first member of Congress (hard to confirm…) to arrive in Haiti since a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the island five days ago. Other members of the CBC are fixing to make a move towards Haiti as well.  They include other members with large Hatian communities in their district such as Ed Towns, Yvette Clarke, Greg Meeks.  From what my journo friends tell me it takes about eight to nine hours to drive from the Dominican Republic to Haiti.  Kendrick should be arriving right about now. Texting his press high performance and quick answering press sercretary Adam Sharon…

On Friday, Meek announced he is introducing legislation to provide tax incentives for American citizens to make monetary donations to the relief efforts in Haiti.
