Durbin Says #LorettaLynch “Asked to Sit in the Back of the Bus” re Nomination

“This woman is asked to sit in the back of the bus when it comes to the Senate calendar,” said Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) on the Senate floor this morning regarding the delay in the  nomination of Loretta Lynch for Attorney General.

For reasons that are unclear, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced over the weekend that a vote on Lynch’s nomination will not happen this week — which was previously announced.  McConnell asserted that consideration of a sex trafficking bill would have to occur before a vote on Lynch.

Many believe that the treatment of Lynch, whose nomination has now gone on longer than any of the last five Attorney General nominees, is a reflection of how Republicans feel about having another African American Attorney General.
