Dems Feature Philly Mayor @ Jobs at Hearing

THOUGH THERE IS NO 99er LEGISLATION…. YET…. The Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, headed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, is holding a hearing on jobs as I write this.  One day after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced he will move to bring a health care reform repeal vote to the Senate floor, the House Dems have countered with a hearing that focuses on jobs, not health care.  The two most interesting witnesses are Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.  It was Nutter’s testimony that highlights the budget battle to come.

Nutter emphasized the importance of enterprise zones,  redevelopment projects, green energy projects and other federal spending that targets inner city jobs.  He said many federal spending economic development is job creating and mentioned that Philadelphia has benefited from much federal spending on those projects.  He also mentioned how American cities are set to fall behind others in the world without that federal support.  Two members of the CBC attended the hearing.
