Conyers to West on Nazi Comment: Please

Joseph Goebbels? Yes America, we have 49 million below the poverty line, 2.3 million locked up, 14 million out of work and 15 trillion dollar debt. What is your Congress focused on? Comparing each other to Nazi’s that’s what.  In this case one of the most notorious, one of the author of  Kristallnacht and the murder of thousands.  Go refresh your historic memory here:

In keeping with the habit of this increasingly useless Congress, freshman Rep. Allen West would appear to be more interest in spiking ratings at Fox and MSNBC than on legislating.  Need attention? Just say something ridiculous and this media will hand it to you. What else could motivate someone in our politics system — Democrat of Republican — to compare Democrat PR to anti-semite murdering bastard and homicidal maniac Nazi Joseph Goebbels? If this is not a plea for waning attention in a media heavy world what is?

This is what West said:  Rep. Allen West as reporter in the Washington Post: “‘If Joseph Goebbels was around, he’d be very proud of the Democrat Party, because they have an incredible propaganda machine,’ West told reporters during House votes Thursday afternoon. ‘Let’s be honest, you know, some of the people in the media are complicit with this and enabling them to get that type of message out.'”

This was Rep. John Conyers said in response: It was really disappointing to hear about your Goebbels remark. He was a vicious notorious anti semite who went down in history as propagandist for Hitler. I beg of you to help raise the level of congressional discourse so that we can engage in vigorous debate with resort[ing] to personal attacks.  Sincerely, John Conyers
