Failure to Communicate. The CBC met with Attorney General Eric Holder yesterday and the issue of communication and not having a “point person” for important matters arose. When the Congressional Black Caucus met with White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley back in May a
major theme was communication… the lack thereof. Members made the point that they didn’t have a point person at the White House or at various cabinet departments to contact when there was an issue they felt should be paid attention to. Almost six months later, as CBC members met with Holder, the issue of communication came up again.
Many of the members bringing the issue up did not fault Attorney General Holder but felt the problem was at the staff level. Whether the issue will be resolved is difficult to know and only time will tell. It was said that the persistent communication issue would be resolved after the meeting with White House Chief of Staff Daley. Almost a full three years into the Obama presidency, Democratic members continue to cite a lack of communication between them and the Executive branch. The White House would appear to be an equal opportunity offender: Many Democratic members who are not in the CBC echo the same complaint.
