@ChakaFattah Asks Obama Admin. to Redirect Toyota Cash to Mentoring

Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA) sent a letter to President Obama asking the Administration to redirect funds from the recent Department of Justice (DOJ) settlement with Toyota Motor Corporation to youth mentoring programs.

On March 19, Toyota reached a $1.2 billion settlement with the Department of Justice.  Attorney General Eric Holder announced the settlement. Fattah is recommending that fifty percent of the Toyota settlement go directly to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Fattah has dropped a bill that would direct all fines, settlements, and penalties into a newly created fund that would assist youth mentoring and STEM education.

“As DOJ and Toyota reach their final agreement it is my firm belief that the settlement funds could be used to tackle a big challenge affecting the nation – the lack of mentors for at-risk youth,”  Fattah said in the letter to the President.
