#1 Issue in Haiti: Housing
HOUSING IN HAITI. Every member I’ve spoken with who has been to Haiti says the same thing: That the most important issue facing Haiti right here right now is housing. Several members of the Congressional Black Caucus have now visited Haiti. They include Gwen Moore, Kendrick Meek, Charlie Rangel, Maxine Waters, Bobby Scott, John Conyers and Donna Christensen. I’m trying to speak with all of them about what they learned when they were there. Since there is really no place to stay in Haiti CODELs have been short — usually one scheduled packed day. I have spoken briefly already with Reps. Scott, Waters, Christensen and Rangel. When I asked them what they would fix first if they could wave a mgic wand, and what was needed the most, they all said the same thing: Housing.
