Rep. Yvette Clarke is joined by Jewish leaders in Brooklyn during a presser on Haitian relief. Clarke represents the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn I frequent often as I go to and from my grandmother’s home. This is an interesting event because the very diverse community Clarke represents has little opportunity to be in the same room together. In fact, there have been frictions here and there over the years. Crisis has a way of changing all that. The part of the presser where Clarke speaks is not found on any of the many parts of this event uploaded on YouTube. No matter. The point gets across.
Notes: Participants included Congresswoman Yvette Clark, Councilman Mathieu Eugene and Councilman Jumaane Williams, who represent the largest Haitian community outside of Florida. Also represented was the office of State Senator John Sampson and Senator Kevin Parker. Other participating Jewish organizations included the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council represented by Rabbi Chanina Sperlin and the Jewish Community Council of Boro-Park represented by Rabbi Yechiel Kaufman. Leaders from Agudath Israel of America including members of the board of Trustees Shloime Werdiger, Elly Kleinman and Chaskel Bennett also attended.
