Poet Maya Angelou isn’t happy that the makers of the King Memorial paraphrased a “quote” inscribed on the side of the memorial. Read this interesting story in the Washington Post.
What Rev. Martin Luther KIng, Jr. said Feb. 4, 1968: “If you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice,” King told the congregation. “Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter.” What is inscribed on the side of the memorial: I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness.

Can this quote be corrected somehow? I would be willing to donate money to correct this undoing of the power of the original quote. We can’t afford to let the full meaning be diluted, ever.
