Toi Hutchison is a State Senator. Debbie Halvorson is a former member of Congress who lost badly to Jesse Jr only months ago… who will run for Jesse Jr’s seat? You can bet either someone with the last name of Jackson or State Senator Hutchison is a safe bet. But Bobby Rush is already telling everyone to relax. “Cool your jets. My fear is that there is going to be so many wannabes blinded by ambition … that we could find a tea party (candidate winning) — that would be a travesty,” Rush said during a press conference on the sudden resignation of Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr.
But you can bet no one will cool their jets for long. When you have talk of 1-1,000,000 shots like former Mel Reynolds are thinking of running for Jackson’s seat, anything is possible. Chances are that if Jackson’s brother Jon tosses his hat in that would be a safe bet. Of all the people with the last name of “Jackson” he has the best shot. Jon Jackson has been a spokesperson or the Rainbow Coalition and has the goods. The youngest quiet brother Yusef is also a possibilty — but unlikely. And Chicago Alderman Sandi Jackson? Perhaps. But with two young kids and a husband suffering from mental illness who is likely to serve jail time, doesn’t she have enough to do?
