On Wednesday, June 27, the first Blacks to serve in the U.S. Marine corp will be honored with the Congressional Gold Medal. Whether the President will attend is not confirmed but he is in town on Wednesday.
The first Black Marines, known as the “Montford Marines” will receive the Congressional Gold Medal as the result of legislation offered by Rep. Corrine Brown of Florida.
