Edwards: Congress Only in for 5 Days in January

Not sure this would be something I’d point out loudly if I was a member of Congress by last Friday, Rep. Donna Edwards pointed out that Congress is only in session for 5 days in January as the rest of America returns to work after Christmas and New Year’s.  Because of the House schedule set by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, the House schedule is relatively lax all year compared to what it was in 2010 when Democrats were in control.
The reason given when Cantor’s thin schedule was put out in early 2010 was to give members time to meet with constituents in the district with the time off.  Interestingly, Cantor is on a trip to Qatar and France and other countries during the time off.  That Cantor is one of the leaders of the lowest rating Congress in history has not motivated change regarding the schedule. Members of Congress make $174,000 per year.
