Cleaver, Brown, Hastings, Wilson Speak Out on Florida Vote Purge

Chairman Cleaver Stands with the Florida Delegation in Condemning Florida Governor Rick Scott for Urging the Purging of Voter Rolls
Washington, DC – Today, Chairman Emanuel Cleaver joins his colleagues, the Florida Members of the Congressional Black Caucus — Congresswoman Corrine Brown, Congressman Alcee Hastings, and Congresswoman Federica Wilson, in condemning Governor Scott for his failure to stop purging of voter rolls:

Chairman Emanuel Cleaver
“I join my colleagues from Florida in condemning Governor Rick Scott for failing and refusing to put a stop to the purging of Florida’s voter rolls. This blatant attack on the right to vote is unconscionable and evidence that we have reached a new low in our nation’s history. I pledge that the Congressional Black Caucus will not sit idly by as the right to vote is stripped away for millions of Americans.”

Congresswoman Corrine Brown (FL-03)
“Minority voting groups, as well as elderly voters and college students have taken too many steps forward to allow these types of retrogressive laws to set them back. It is outright embarrassing that Florida residents are once again being used as guinea pigs, particularly after what happened during the 2000 elections in our state. Given that voting is the bedrock of our democracy, it is critical to make it easier for people to register and to vote, not erect unnecessary barriers.”

Congressman Alcee Hastings (FL-23)
“Never before have these voter suppression efforts been so blatant, widespread, and systematic. Republicans are attacking one of the most fundamental rights of our democracy: the right to vote. We cannot sit idly by and allow our voices to be silenced. I call upon the U.S. Department of Justice to seek an injunction and stop the purge. It is absolutely insane what Governor Scott is doing to attack Florida voters. We know what he is up to, we are mad as hell, and we will not allow our voting rights to be trampled on.”

Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-17)
“The Florida Republicans’ desire to use Department of Homeland Security information – which is for the purpose of thwarting terrorists and not to engage in yet another round of voter suppression – would set a dangerous precedent by not only taking away citizens’ constitutional right to vote but by giving state governments free rein to invade innocent Americans’ privacy.”

AS a Citizen and resident of the state of Florida, I went through a lot to get my ID and voter registration. But since there isn’t anyone or anything I care to vote for – anybody in need of a voter registration card can have mine.

    Thank You,

We will Moblize Against All Election Riggers and Voter Purg in Every State…We Will Put in Place a Strategy, that Will Make it Very-Very Unattractive for Voter Purg.Voter Riggers or Law Enforcement Agencies to Cooperate With Who-Ever Wants to Voter Purg….It is Getting so Dangerous in This Country, that I Wonder if The Insurance Companies are Still Agreeing to Insure People’s Lives…Elections Must be Free and Fair,other-wise it is Nonsense.

  3. Efforts should be made to Educate Voters and Polling Staff, some of Whom were Uncomfortable Last[4] Years Ago,with The Counting and Tallying Methods…We should be Able to Assist People Who Have Been Unable to Vote Due to Unfortunate Circumstances,or Incarceration….We Need To Debate and Introduce New Laws in Order To Control Party Funding and Set Tougher Criteria for Parties to Stand in The Polls…The Criteria Should Include Demands for Financial Transparency and The Respect of Democratic Standards in Their Internal Structure…A Special Fund Should be Established for Party Reform to Strengthen Their Legitimacy and Capacity.
