Members of the Congressional Black Caucus joined other Democrats to sign a “discharge petition” to end the 12 day government shutdown. The shutdown occurred after members of the House GOP insisted that the new health care reform be defunded.
Reps. Barbara Lee, Mel Watt, Marcia Fudge, Jim Clyburn, Bobby Scott, Eddie Bernice Johnson, Robin Kelly, Maxine Waters, Bennie Thompson, Keith Ellison, David Scott, Emanuel Cleaver, Danny Davis and others stood in line on the House floor to sign a petition that could re-open the government. If over 218 members of the House signed the petition, a vote to re-open the government would take place.
The House went out of session shortly after a few votes on farm legislation today. They are scheduled to come back into session on Monday night.
