SC: Is Tim Scott Running For Senate? He Launches PAC
South Carolina GOP Rep. Tim Scott has started his own political action committee called TIM (Tomorrow is Meaningful) PAC. A day before the GOP Presidential primary in SC, Scott has been holding his own as the man to be endorsed by in the nutmeg state. So far, he has not revealed who he is supporting. Though Scott is a lot quieter than the other black GOper in Congress, Allen West of Florida, he is widely seen as someone who will rise in the party. Of course, that’s what they said years ago about J.C. Watts, but Scott appears to be a bit more dedicated to politics as a career than Watts was — and his already shown more strategic punch.
But Tim Scott has his own elections to worry about. With firebrand Tea Party hero Sen. Jim DeMint retiring from the Senate in 2012 there are rumors swirling that Scott may run statewide for DeMint’s seat. Scott has not confirmed this one way or the other but that he is starting a PAC will likely put more attention on the idea of him becoming a candidate.
According the to The Post and Courier newspaper in SC, Scott says his PAC will: “Will help find and support other conservative Republican candidates for Congress and other offices. It also will advise them how to use their life experiences to connect with voters. He hoped it could raise $200,000 or more to help at least 60 candidates during the coming year.”
Scott should be endorsing someone today for President. I predict he will support Newt Gingrich.
