Sharp-Eyed Cleaver May Have Saved Woman’s Life

Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Emanuel Cleaver may have saved a woman’s life this morning in Missouri.

Though Cleaver is being low-key about the incident, sources close to the Congressman reveal a story that sounds like Congressman from KC may have saved a life.

According to well placed sources, Rep. Cleaver, was enroute to a Green Impact Zone in Kansas City this morning when he saw something out of his car window.  As a member of his staff drove him near the intersection of 44th and Troost in Kansas City, Cleaver noticed a hand above tall weeds and grass near a ditch.  According to sources, Cleaver abruptly asked the member of his staff to stop the vehicle.  He and his staff member ran across Troost Street(s) to find where Cleaver saw the hand above the weeds.  What they found was a woman in distress and in need of medical attention.

Cleaver and his staff member discovered a woman laying on the ground and foaming at the mouth and drifting in and out of consciousness.  When the woman saw the two men she said, “help me.”  She said nothing else after.  Cleaver called 911 as did others in a car following the Congressman’s.  After using his suit jacked to cover the woman, Cleaver called 911 a second time as he feared the woman would not make it because her condition appeared to worsen.  All waited at the scene until the ambulance arrived.  The woman’s identity and current condition is unknown. She was generally described by someone at the scene who saw her as “over 50.”

“I don’t know what to say. I am so thankful I was in the right place at the right time and could help. The heroes are the First Responders who rushed to save her. I just hope she is okay,” the CBC Chair said today.

Over 100 Democrats were in Cambridge, Md. today at the annual House Democratic retreat.  The President spoke to the group today at 2pm.  But like many members, Cleaver did not attend in part because of his schedule back in his district.

Feels like karma to me.
